Why Everyone Should Care About Mindfulness in the Workplace

In today’s fast-paced and often demanding work environments, workplace depression and anxiety are on the rise. All companies should care about this, and if altruism alone is not enough of a reason, then companies should consider how depression, anxiety, and burnout negatively affects their bottom line.

According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 12 billion working days are lost every year to depression and anxiety, costing more than $1 trillion per year in lost productivity.

Further, studies from the American Psychological Association (APA) confirm that companies with no infrastructure in place to support the well-being of their employees have lower productivity, higher healthcare costs, and higher turnover.

With all the recent research on the benefits of meditation and mindfulness, it is clear that when applied well in a corporate setting, these modalities are a powerful tool for enriching teams, boosting retention, improving productivity, and having a positive impact on culture overall.
